The National Hurricane Center has announced the formation of the f

irst tropical cyclone of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, located near 36.6°N, 48.9°W in the North Atlantic.

This system, which had been under observation for several days, has now developed the characteristics of a tropical storm and has been officially named Andrea—the first name on this year’s storm list.

Andrea is currently tracking east-northeast at 17 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1014 millibars.

However, as it moves into cooler waters, Andrea is expected to weaken within the next 24 hours, making its time as a tropical storm relatively brief.

At this time, Andrea poses no threat to any land areas.
