What’s next for Messi? Miami contract, 2026 FIFA World Cup, retirement

Image
Lionel Messi bows out as Miami lose to PSG in Club World Cup, but questions remain over his future in the MLS and for Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.  Lionel Messi’s journey at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 has come to an end after Inter Miami were handed a 4-0 thumping by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the tournament’s last 16. Following their loss to the European champions on Sunday, Inter Miami now bring their attention back to Major League Soccer (MLS), where their campaign in the Eastern Conference was put on hold during the Club World Cup in the United States. Messi will continue to lead in his third year at Miami, but questions remain over his future plans with club and country. What did Messi say after Miami’s loss to PSG?  While Messi failed to score in the game dominated by PSG, he had one header saved by the opposition goalkeeper and a free kick that hit the goalpost. Despite his frustration, Messi praised PSG by saying the result was “expected”. “The match...

Israel kills 85 Palestinians, bombing across Gaza amid new ceasefire push

Homes, schools, hospitals and hungry aid seekers are targeted by Israel as it forces thousands out of the enclave’s north. Israeli forces have bombarded multiple areas across the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 85 Palestinians, including aid seekers and families sheltering in schools, and wounding many more in attacks that have also targeted a crowded hospital. In the relentless attacks on Monday, 62 of the victims were in Gaza City and the north of the territory. The Israeli navy struck a port in Gaza City, where the military has stepped up its heavy strikes, killing at least 21 and wounding 30, many of them women and children. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said the attack was in the heart of a displacement centre near the Gaza seaport. “This area serves as a refuge for many traumatised and displaced people, offering some relief from the oppressive heat of the tents,” he said. Also on Monday, Israeli forces targeted the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Hospital i...

Israel kills nearly 600 Palestinians at aid centres: All you need to know

Image
Israel kills nearly 600 Palestinians at aid centres: All you need to know Hundreds of people have been killed in search of aid in Gaza, as a deepening famine and limited access to food leave hundreds of thousands hungry and malnourished. Since May 27, at least 583 Palestinians have been killed and 4,186 injured while waiting for food at aid distribution sites operated by the Israeli- and United States-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), according to the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health. The killings have occurred daily as famine looms over the besieged enclave. International organisations have warned for weeks that Gaza’s 2.1 million residents face catastrophic food shortages with markets emptied, clean water scarce, and aid deliveries sporadic and dangerous. In the first eight days of the GHF’s operation, more than 100 people were killed by gunfire from Israeli forces. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said the GHF remains the only source of food in the S...

Elon Musk slams Trump’s signature budget bill as a ‘disgusting abomination’

Image
Trump’s budget bill faces Republican discord in the US Senate, where some lawmakers reject any increase to the national debt. Billionaire Elon Musk has renewed his criticisms of United States President Donald Trump’s signature budget bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” in a series of social media posts. On Tuesday, just days after leaving his post in the Trump administration, Musk offered yet another broadside against the legislation, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill. “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.” His subsequent posts laid out the reasoning for his opposition, suggesting that the spending and tax cuts proposed in the bill would balloon the US national debt. “It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America citizens with c...

Barack Obama didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize because of “affirmative action.”

Image
WOW. This isn’t just insulting, it’s straight-up ignorant. Barack Obama didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize because of “affirmative action.” He won because he symbolized a turning point: from war to diplomacy, from torture to human rights, from fear to hope. Calling it “affirmative action” is just coward-speak for “I can’t handle a Black man earning global respect.” You’re not making a point — you’re proving why we need better history education in this country. You should be ashamed, but that would require having a soul. Don Jr. is vile. Like and share if you agree Trump will NEVER measure up and you want everyone to know!

The Northrop B-2 Spirit is an American heavy strategic bomber that uses low-observable stealth technology to penetrate sophisticated anti-aircraft defenses. It is often referred to as a stealth bomber. A subsonic flying wing with a crew of two, the B-2 was designed by Northrop (later Northrop Grumman) as the prime contractor, with Boeing, Hughes, and Vought as principal subcontractors. It was produced from 1988 to 2000. The bomber can drop conventional and thermonuclear weapons, such as up to eighty 500-pound class (230 kg) Mk 82 JDAM GPS-guided bombs, or sixteen 2,400-pound (1,100 kg) B83 nuclear bombs. The B-2 is the only acknowledged in-service aircraft that can carry large air-to-surface standoff weapons in a stealth configuration. Development began under the Advanced Technology Bomber (ATB) project during the Carter administration, which cancelled the Mach 2-capable B-1A bomber in part because the ATB showed such promise, but development difficulties delayed progress and drove...

Trump administration scrambles to rehire key federal workers after DOGE firings

Image
Trump administration scrambles to rehire key federal workers after DOGE firings  - Federal agencies are rehiring and ordering back from leave some of the employees who were laid off in the weeks after President Donald Trump took office as they scramble to fill critical gaps in services left by the Department of Government Efficiency-led effort to shrink the federal workforce. -The Trump administration’s quiet backtracking from the firings and voluntary retirements — which are also paired with new hires to fill vacancies those departures created — come as federal agencies are still implementing their “reduction-in-force” plans as part of a push for spending cuts. Experts warned that even though the Trump administration has backtracked on some of its efforts to shrink the federal workforce, the rapid rehirings are a warning sign that it has lost more capacities and expertise that could prove critical — and difficult to replace — in the months and years ahead. “There are time bo...

U.S. warplanes strike three Iranian nuclear sites in sweeping attack

Image
U.S. warplanes strike three Iranian nuclear sites in sweeping attack effort, saying the talks in Geneva “didn’t help.” Iran has consistently refused U.S. and Israeli demands that it completely halt its enrichment of uranium, which can be used for both civilian nuclear power and, at higher enrichment levels, a nuclear weapon. On June 10, Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla, who as the head of U.S. Central Command oversees military operations across the Middle East, told House lawmakers that he had presented Trump with a “wide range of options” when asked whether the U.S. was prepared to respond with overwhelming force to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon. The most formidable of Iran’s nuclear sites is Fordow, which is buried about 250 feet underground in the side of a mountain near the holy city of Qom. U.S. and Israeli officials have said it can be disabled only by immense earth-penetrating bombs. The only aircraft in the world capable of carrying such weapons, known as massive or...

China Sends Two Aircraft Carriers Into the Pacific for the First Time

China Sends Two Aircraft Carriers Into the Pacific for the First Time  By sending warships beyond Japan, the Chinese Navy is demonstrating its ability to project sea and air power far past its home waters. In a display of Beijing’s growing military reach, the Chinese Navy sent two aircraft carriers into the Pacific Ocean, far from the country’s coast, for the first time to conduct exercises together, Japan’s defense minister, Gen Nakatani, said. Mr. Nakatani told reporters on Monday that the Chinese aircraft carriers were spotted launching and retrieving jet fighters out in the Pacific to the east of the Japanese island of Iwo Jima, about 750 miles south of Tokyo. He said the Japanese Navy was monitoring the joint exercise by both vessels, which began on Saturday. It was the first time that China’s two active-duty aircraft carriers, the Liaoning and the Shandong, and their escort ships had operated together in the Pacific beyond the islands of Japan, which form a natural barr...

It’s now been 10 years since Donald Trump rode down that golden escalator and launched his 2016 presidential campaign. And plenty of people – raising my hand here – initially dismissed him as a passing novelty," writes Aaron Blake. "Little did we know at the time that this man would not only become president (twice), but would completely flip the political script in our country. Read more

Image
Vance Boelter, the suspect charged with killing a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband and wounding a second lawmaker and his wife, had an arsenal of weapons and a hit list in his vehicle, according to court documents.  Boelter, 57, allegedly posed as a police officer and drove a Ford SUV, registered in his name, equipped with police lights to carry out the shootings of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, early Saturday morning after allegedly shooting State Sen. John Hoffman, also a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette, in their nearby Champlin home.  Reportedly, Boelter left the fake police vehicle at the crime scene in Brooklyn Park after exchanging gunfire with police and escaping. Inside the vehicle, police recovered a disturbing cache of weapons, including at least three AK-47 assault rifles and a 9mm handgun, along with a manifesto that listed the names and addresses of other public officials.  About 70 names were found in the ...

Image
On Sunday afternoon, the Iranian capital Tehran was hit hard by a barrage of airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force, continuing a campaign that has been going on for several days to target Iran's nuclear program and military industrial installations.  An extraordinary evacuation notice was given by the Israeli military, encouraging Iranian residents to flee areas surrounding weapons manufacturing centres, just hours before the strikes, according to The Times of Israel.  Anyone in the vicinity of military installations is strongly encouraged to leave "immediately" in response to a warning from the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) posted in Persian and Arabic on X (formerly Twitter).  Colonel Avichay Adraee, an IDF spokesman who spoke Arabic, issued a command to "evacuate these areas and not return until further notice" to anyone found or anticipated to be in or near military weapons manufacturing facilities or the institutions that support them.  The spokesperson for t...

IRANIAN MISSILES BREACH ISRAELI DEFENSES – CIVILIAN DEATH TOLL RISES

Image
IRANIAN MISSILES BREACH ISRAELI DEFENSES – CIVILIAN DEATH TOLL RISES Despite Israel's powerful missile defense systems, the IDF has confirmed that 5–10% of Iranian missiles are slipping through. These few that get past are causing deadly damage. So far, 24 Israeli civilians have been killed, with 8 deaths reported just last night after a wave of Iranian ballistic missiles struck Tel Aviv and surrounding cities. At the impact sites, IDF Homefront Command rescue teams are working around the clock, pulling survivors from rubble and securing damaged areas. While Israel’s Iron Dome and Arrow systems intercept most incoming threats, even a small breach rate is proving dangerous — turning civilian neighborhoods into war zones.

How Gaza’s hospitals became battlegrounds

Image
How Gaza’s hospitals became battlegrounds      Relentless bombardment, power outages and shortages have pushed nearly every hospital in the beleaguered northern Gaza Strip out of service, with evidence of repeated attacks on and in the vicinity of medical facilities despite the presence of doctors, patients and civilians inside, a CNN analysis has found.      At least 20 out of 22 hospitals identified by CNN in northern Gaza were damaged or destroyed in the first two months of Israel's war against Hamas, from October 7 to December 7, according to a review of 45 satellite images and around 400 videos from the ground, as well as interviews with doctors, eyewitnesses and humanitarian organizations. Fourteen were directly hit, based on the evidence collected and verified by CNN and analyzed by experts.   Israel launched its bombardment and ground invasion of the Gaza Strip after Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack, in which at least 1,200 people were k...

Israeli drone shot down near Iranian nuclear facility, according to Iran state media       R anian air defenses shot down an Israeli drone in the vicinity of Iran’s Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant (FFEP), an underground nuclear facility located some 20 miles northeast of the city of Qom, Iranian state media Press TV reported Friday evening local time.       This was reported around the same time that Press TV said the Hamedan Airbase in western Iran was hit by Israeli airstrikes. Fardiz, a city in north-central Iran, was also targeted by Israeli strikes, Press TV reported.
